Description: Is God sovereign? Can we trust Him? Centuries ago a small group of Jewish Christians, people like us, asked this penetrating question when the fires of persecution inched closer every day. The book of Hebrews was written to encourage these frightened and discouraged believers that God, through faith, could not only redeem their pain and give their lives purpose but transform their difficult circumstances into a platform for encouraging others. These believers, like us, needed to remember God’s covenant promise, that He will never abandon His children. Hebrews 11is a spiritual family album, filled with portraits of often messy people, with life stories that are often quite colorful and, in some case, even sordid. This sermon series digs into each of these lives and concludes that our God can transform any life into a life of faith – even yours.
This series is the basis for the book, Treasures of Faith, Living Boldly in View of God’s Promises by Chuck and Sharon Betters. This book is designed for personal or small group study. It was the recommended small group Bible study for Women in the Church in the Presbyterian Church in America in 1998 – 1999. One main goal of the book is to encourage readers to express the work of Christ in their own lives by becoming channels of God’s compassion and mercy. Each chapter offers practical ideas for mercy ministry. The companion Leader’s Guide includes additional teaching resources to make this life-changing study a strong tool for helping churches embrace a mercy ministry mindset.
